Stockholm +50

It’s time for bold choices. It’s time for urgent action. It’s time for a better future on a healthy planet.

On 2nd and 3rd June 2022, a crucial international environmental meeting will be held in Stockholm, Sweden, and Nideport will be there.

Anchored in the Decade of Action, under the theme “Stockholm+50: a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity,” this high-level meeting will follow months of consultations and discussions with individuals, communities, organizations and governments around the world.

Just like the one-day preparatory meeting held at United Nations Headquarters in New York on 28th March 2022, our deputy Claudia Moray will be attending this expected international meeting.

It will commemorate the 50 years since the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, which made the environment a pressing global issue for the first time. The United Nations Environment Programme was created as a result of the conference.

Now, 50 years after that Stockholm meeting, the world faces a triple planetary crisis of climate change, pollution and waste, nature, and biodiversity loss, as well as other problems that are affecting the prosperity and well-being of this and future generations. An unhealthy planet threatens human health, prosperity, equality, and peace – as the world has seen only too clearly in COVID-19. It also threatens the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The meeting will comprise an opening segment, four plenary meetings and three leadership dialogues, and a closing segment.
